I’ve been in search of a rooming opportunity only 2-3 month situation, until I move into my permanent house.I created a profile which made me verify myself with email, phone #, and social media source. I was very pleased that shortly after I made an account I got a text saying that this person had a room available. (They got my number through the app I guess it’s available once I verified myself in the beginning)They told me that everything within my profile matched what they were looking for. They sent me several pics of the space I would be renting and they simply wanted me to fill out a questionnaire through email. Very understandable questions for the most part except some asking if I was ok to pay before I got the keys. Which is some what understandable but after the questionnaire they explained that they couldn’t meet in person that they were out of town to finish their masters degree. That they would mail me the keys express and this would all be after I put in my $600 security deposit !! HUGE RED FLAGS !! No big deal right? Obviously a scammer and avoidable to some. But this happened FOUR MORE TIMES before I finally deleted my account. Each person with similar back stories but different reasons on why they couldn’t show me in person but after I pay security deposit I could get the keys!! I’ve deleted my account and I trying to Warn people to please be careful and approach this app with a lot of caution!! I’ve looked up reviews of this app outside of apple and it gets terrible reviews with a lot of people having the same issues I’ve had. Do additional research.
  • Nothing but a scam.

    By Notjustsomeguy
As far as I can tell, every user is fake or being tricked. The offers I got were from people who lived too far away and couldn’t show me the apartment before I rent it. Scam. The apartments always “used to belong to my dad who died”. Scam. Craigslist won’t even let you mention Roomster. It automatically blocks any post with the name because they’ve had too many complaints about scams. “Verified user” means nothing. There’s no screening process. All you need is some other social accounts to get verified, which it turns out, are easy to fake. Don’t waste your time on this utter garbage.
  • No accountability

    By the wolgie
Unlike it’s more sophisticated counterparts, Roomster fails to keep its participants accountable for their quality of service. Complete waste of money.
  • Whack

    By ssanjayy
The search filter does not work well in this app or something. I was getting inquiries for locations outside of my area. Almost all the inquiries were not relatable to my location. Waste of time

    By Aenews
This app has been charging me $7.99/week for 2 years! It is very misleading. I purchased the app and 1 week access in May of 2017. It says $7.99/1 week. I never received an email or anything in regards to these recurring payments. I do not understand how an app is even able to do this and save my credit card Information for over 2 years. This app should not even be affiliated with the Apply store. Complete scam. I will be reporting to Better Business Bureau.
  • Terrible way to find legitimate rooms

    By courtneynicole131
I paid to access Roomster for one week. I live in the OC near Los Angeles but found there to be hardly any legitimate rooms. Tons of listings are used for inappropriate purposes. Roomster makes Craiglist look good! Roomster would then give notifications to upgrade my account in fake profiles although I already did! Don’t notify individuals who are thinking they are getting messages by putting them in fake profiles. It is near impossible to communicate on Roomster. SpareRoom seems better along with typical sifting through Craiglist. I rather go that route than deal with this awful app. NEVER pay for this. Waste of money.
  • Scam App

    By issass1
You can’t message anyone unless you pay. Scam App. Not free at all.
  • Not Happy.

    By RokKasOn_1
On top of showing the same accounts for a week and blowing up my email with duplicates of the same listing, i log on today to see my account has been wrongly banned. I have never used any form of hate speech, derogatory names or promoted ANY kind of agenda. All ive done is look for roommates and if i did not approve, i simply did not respond. And if that wasnt enough, your app charged me 21.75 after one week of use. This is straight up robbery. i want my money back.
  • Nice idea but billing issues and Crashing problems

    By Fruitninja57
I have used roomster for 2 relocations now. The first time it worked quite well. However, the second time I used it for a move it signed me up for the subscription, which was fine and I knew it needed to be done. I tried to cancel the reoccurring subscription part in the app prior to the renewal; the app stated my subscription was stopped. However, it does not remove the subscription renewal in App Store, so I was charged twice (2-7day periods) before I realized the subscription never stopped. So if you’re going to cancel the subscription, cancel it in your iTunes account or they will take you for everything. Not to mention 1/2 the time I tried to use the roomster app it kept crashing and would not load so I had to use my computer to access the roomster website. Overall 2 stars because they have a decent service but so much work is needed. No way to try and recover lost funds and their app needs work; aesthetically pleasing, till you try to click anything and it starts glitching and doesn’t refresh properly when selecting new filter settings. For specs on my device: Newest XS Max 256gig.
  • Poor design, expensive surprise subscription

    By whityel
I signed up for what I thought was just a 10-day paid trial and was quickly unimpressed by the poor design. Silly me didn’t read the fine print and got hit with a $25 subscription fee that the “24/7 support” robot feed refused to refund. $25/mo for this horrible app?! I want to hurl.
  • Spam App

    By Salim Allawzi
This is a bad app, people will never reply to your request, you’ll get hundreds of spamming messages from users! Don’t waste your money on this app!
  • Scam alert

    By J68843
This app is loaded with scammers and fake profiles. Fake messages sent from the app itself to get you to pay for extra services. None of the listings are even real, I got a free trial and was only hit with aggressive scammers in my TEXT MESSAGES! It gives out your phone number without telling you by giving a SMS option on your profile. No warning for that. Had random people texting me for my info at 4 am and getting angry when I didn’t respond. Scary app
  • Colossal FAIL

    By McDuglebone
Roomster is a complete waste of time, money and effort. I downloaded the app, and after a week of no responses to any messages I had sent to potential roommates, paid the subscription in hopes of bettering my odds of success. Tried it for another week, still with zero responses. A few men I did NOT contact reached out to me on the app, but did not hear one thing from the multitude of room renters I messaged. Disappointing to say the least.
  • App is not being monitored

    By user123385228
Many of the apartments in nyc are scams. Although Roomster is not the one scamming. Roomster is not ensuring that many people using the app to contact are scammers. Roomster does not warn users about scamming practices. You will have better luck using a Facebook group like gypsy housing or even Craigslist. Roomster needs to improve their business practices.

Roomster makes you pay $10 to see your inbox
  • Worst

    By zhanysba
It’s a worst app I ever used. All scams!!! I won’t recommend to no one!
  • Scam

    By amandawanema
It’s fake. Shouldn’t even be allowed in here
  • Bad bad all around,

    By roomster is a scam
Hey I tried to unsubscribe but Roomster makes it nearly impossible with how you do it . Super unsatisfied & your company should feel ashamed but I doubt that as you are laughing on your way to the bank , Big big ripoff, I would give less than a star but that’s impossible too . I want my money back because I thought I had unsubscribe but you made me jump thru more hoops than needed . So many scams on this app starting with Roomster 👺
  • You have to pay or you get no use of App

    By Brady Burke
This app would be amazing when searching for a place in and around the area you live but you have no access to review messages unless you purchase a subscription. This app forces you to buy a subscription the moment you download the app. That kind of system always fails because all they think about is money. Also there is no way (not that I know of since I won’t buy a “Weekly Subscription for 9.99”) to filter through or save rooms you’re interested in. It is quite unfortunate but this app is a waste.
  • Fraud marketing

    By alldaydella
Every so often I get someone who tells me I need to download this app from Craigslist if I want to be an acceptable candidate as a room mate. Complete scam. Just trying to get $10 out of people. Beware.
  • Scam Alert!

    By apdjjd
You pay for premium and you never get a response from anybody, but the moment your subscription goes off, they’re blowing your phone with notifications. Many many many scam adverts on there. You text people and they give you stories and want you to pay first then they’d mail you the keys. You’d be dumb to fall for such.
  • 100% SCAMMERS

    By Chshcjcjxjj
Everyone on this app is a scammer. I cant believe this app doesn’t actually verify these accounts. Please do not waste your time with this app, none of these listings are legit and neither are the sellers!
  • App in purchase is expensive

    By Betravel81
    $9.99/week is expensive!
  • Payment

    By daniela prado
I hate apps that lie on the payment. They make you do all the steps spend a lot of time in the app and at the and you notice that you have to pay. You should charge you for downloading the app. I mean nobody wants a free app that is not a free app. YOU WONT FIND A ROOM HERE, JUST A BUNCH OF SCAMMERS. All ads are fake
  • $9.99 a week

    By MackenzieRosie
Just to message back potential roommates. What a load of garbage. Roomster you can delete this entire app, you’re terrible.
  • SCAM

    By D🤷🏿‍♀️
Fake profiles, scammers asking for money upfront. Addresses don’t match with the actual property that’s for tent.
  • Beware!

    By dtydhrcb
What a scam! Don’t waste your money or time. Fake bots! Using Craigslist to get people to use the app!
  • Terrible customer service, hungry for money

    By uuuserr
I installed this app to find roommates. First, you can't send message until you pay. Second, nobody could be able to read your message until they pay! So, there is a high chance that people can't communicate! Third, I had suvscribed for 5-day period but after 5 days, they charged me for $24. I immediately cancelled the subscription and sent a message to customer service. But they didn't refund my money no matter how many times I told them! Terrible terrible service. I didn't find any roomate and don't recommend this app to anybody!
  • Scam!! Stay away!

    By rachelh500
I’ve been looking for a new place to live and have found several places on Craigslist that tell you not to email them and only to contact you on Roomster. They send you phoney texts (not even in the right time zone) and try to lure you into paying for a subscription. This is a terrible app that makes looking for a place online feel even creepier.
  • Useless

    By srhoda
Have to pay even just to message? No thanks!
  • Soo bad don’t get they are thieves

    By motherofallcatz
I bought there 10 dollar a week subscription hoping I could cancel it. It’s been 2 months of trying to get apple support and Roomster to cancel my subscription. They have stolen over 200 bucks from me since then and will not return it. There are way better roommate finder stuff. Do not use!!
  • Scam Alert!!!!!!

    By Sc@m!
Every room I found is fake. Every persons picture is a model and the rooms look like a catalog. DO NOT USE THIS APP is just a big phishing site
  • Beware of re-occurring charges

    By GabeJGP
Signed up back in December, purchased the weekly 7.99 offer. Did not know it was re-occurring weekly, nor do they notify you of the charges. Basically I was getting charged every week 7.99 for 4 months. Canceled the subscription 3 weeks ago, and guess what? I’m still getting charged!! Fraud!!

    By TimmyHollis
This app is a pure scam... They charge you $9.99 A WEEK! Who the hell do you people think you are? $40 a month for a rental app?!?! You’re absolutely ridiculous.
  • App leads to nothing, possible SCAM

    By Deligent User
It’s $10 a WEEK and led to absolutely nothing. Possible Craigslist scam. Here’s how it played out for me: You inquire on a room for rent on Craigslist, you then receive a very impersonal response saying please register here, with a small link. You then click on the link and it leads you to Roomster. At this point you are required to download the app, which again is a very steep $10 a week. However the room registration you were looking for doesn’t pop up and is nowhere to be found. Also most of the ads on Roomster are very suspicious and lead to no real personal response when you try to connect. Please investigate this app and shut it down, it is definitely fraudulent.
  • Don’t waste your money!

    By disgruntled seattlite
I moved to Seattle and tried this app. Got the subscription and everything. Terrible experience. Half of the listings/people are fakes. The App is terrible and clunky. Anybody can message you and you get bombarded with irrelevant emails about new listings... but if you click on the link in the email the app won’t open the listing. Same goes with messages- sometimes they show up in the app and sometimes they don’t. But again half of it is fake/spam so it doesn’t matter. Don’t use this app just get on Craigslist. I can’t believe i lost 20 bucks on this.
  • Fake accounts

    By Dhyggh
The weekly fee is 9.99, they don’t allow you to put your social media information in your bio. They make fake accounts that will messages you, but you have to pay to see the messages. Just another app scam!!!
  • Terrible

    By SquirrelFace83
Waste of time. Every applicant is sketchy or a scam, app is difficult to navigate, they do not allow much room for listing information and make you pay $10 a week just to actually talk to applicants, they don’t allow you to talk to applicants without paying for the weekly subscription, so...this is NOT a free app. Waste of, time, hope, and money.
  • I was scammed $1000.

    By Torii Kay
So I posted a listing to find a room for rent, paid for the $9.99 upgrade, got text messages sent to my phone full of offers. I replied to one offer, nearby where I currently live. They gave me all the info about the place I will be living, sent out some lease agreement form for me to sign, asked for $1,150 (first months rent + deposit) and had me send the money through Zelle before they could “send out the keys”. I thought this was just “how easily the app works” so I sent them $1000 and they just never texted back. Do not make this same mistake!! Do not trust anything that has to do with this app! It’s a scam.
  • logs out

    By needs improvement for play
I’m trying to find a place to live and everyone someone sends me a link it logs me out and takes me to the main screen when I finally log in and click their link again to view the house it automatically logs me out so I’m not able to view the property
  • Horrible app

    By JSHOE97
Tried it for 4 months and if you don’t buy premium, you get bombarded with “fake” messages. Once I tried premium, they disappeared and got no messages. Don’t get this app. Use other competitive apps. Even Facebook was 1000% better.
  • Sign in problems

    By C.E.Mann
I haven’t been able to use this at all, been trying to use this app to find a place and I can’t even sign in to use. Please fix!!
  • Scam

    By cLebJoyce
This is a scam! As far as I could tell all the listings and people are fake. Don’t be fooled by good deals and picture-perfect rooms.
  • Will not work

    By NickMehn!
Will not let me log in via email, Google, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, anything. Always gets a response error.
  • Pure hot garbage

    By pubesandwich
This app should be banned from the App Store. The large majority of the posts on here are completely fake. These are the type of people who prey on desperate people like me trying to find housing. When you receive a message, you have to pay to read it or respond. Then you need to manually close and re-open the app to even see it, what crap. I even payed the $10 weekly subscription for 1 week to give it a chance. I’m going to ask my bank to reverse those charges. This app is pure hot garbage- and the only real people on there got suckered. What makes things more malicious is that people are spamming Craigslist housing pages to promote it. This means they are now polluting Craigslist and again- THIS IS MEANT FOR PEOPLE TRYING TO FIND A PLACE TO LIVE! Whenever someone on Craigslist sent me a link to roomster, a reverse image search then if their ad was often found elsewhere in another city or country- these people are toxic and this app should be banned!
  • Fraud

    By Simplifier
99% are fraudulent account. A waste of time.
  • They want to charge for replies

    By wave
Also, they have fake Craigslist accounts that they then point back to fake roomster sites
  • Don’t upgrade!

    By Ash. Garay
Do not waste your money on the upgrade. They have listings from 4 weeks advertised as “new”. The only way to communicate with a listing is if you have a upgraded account and if the person who listed does not have an upgraded account you will not be able to communicate with them. Most people on here do not pay for that feature because It’s not worth it.
  • Scam

    By CX-1982
What a scam. You will go through setting up your account, connect all your social media, give them your address book, for them to be asked to pay! Maybe they should have ask about this first.
