  • Videos won’t play

    Love Udemy, but this app doesn’t work. It played one video and that’s it. It will load others and you can scrub through them to see frames, but it won’t play. Restarted the app, phone, reinstalled, same problem. I might try it again after an update, apparently many people are having this issue right now since almost all the recent reviews are complaining about video playback. Must’ve gotten some cheapO devs to write it, it shows. Edit1: Thank you for the response. I will check back for an update, if it works like it is supposed to I will update my review accordingly including increased star-age if applicable.
  • AirPlay is unusable. Crashes every lecture.

    AirPlay works well for me in other apps and from Safari. Udemy is an unfortunate exception. Fast forwarding and rewinding has noticeable delays that make finding your spot very difficult. Pausing usually resets my place in the lecture. If my phone goes to sleep and the AirPlaying lecture ends, the app will always crash when I unlock my phone.

    I have issue with iphone app, one of the course(PMP from Joseph) is not displayed properly and its skewed. I am unable to run the course on iphone app. I have already wrote multiple times to udemy customer service with no resolution yet.

  • Promising but crashes - updated and no more crashes

    I’ve had the app for a while but hadn’t actually started going through the courses until today. I have only completed the first bit of one course because it crashes every little bit. If I lock my phone, the course continues and I can listen to it, but if I unlock my phone to do anything or to watch the video, the app crashes and either restarts itself or must be restarted manually. I hope this gets fixed, as I am very interested in being able to continue learning while working. Updated to 5 star after uninstalling and reinstalling. No crashes had so far.

    I have been tacking courses on here for study add and to learn new triads. All have made me more successful then I once was. Try hard and really read the hand outs. This will pay off if you seek knowledge.
  • A few disappointing issues!!!

    I love the idea of Udemy and the content is good, but there’s a few issues with this company as a whole... First, I can’t find a way to contact anyone about the app at all!!! So, I’m forced to write it here with lower stars to have it read! Talk about airing dirty laundry out in public huh!!! Second, this is a learning app!!! So why doesn’t split screen work on the iPad?!? It would be awesome to be able to have my notes app open beside this app in the video, but that’s not even something I can recommend thanks to my first issue noted above. If they fixed these two issues, I would gladly bump this rating to 5 stars as those are the only areas I find fault with the platform! The training has been very good so far!

    I loved the courses thqt i have taken, but since the recent update, the courses do not load, app keeps freezing, couldnt find and email to contact tech support. The curriculum says there are resources, but they are not loading. Will just use youtube in future.

    This app is HORRIBLY GLITCHY!!!!!! I lose my downloads for no reason. Videos - even downloaded videos - don’t always play. Right now, one of my courses has double videos listed, so they all play twice. And it also skips around and refuses to play the one that is truly next. So frustrating. Something that is so great, being so frustrating and time wasting.

    I’ve had nothing but problems with the Udemy app. Courses won’t download, videos don’t stream (I have very fast 4G and home WiFi) and I keep getting “out of memory errors” on my iPhone X, despite having no background apps and tons of free storage. Restarting my iPhone and reinstalling the app hasn’t fixed the problem. Very frustrating...

    I don’t know what happened in the last update, but all of the courses I downloaded disappeared yet they’re still taking up space. I expect this app to work based on all the purchases I have made over the years. What I don’t expect is for all of my downloaded courses to disappear during my travels. When I am in a different country, it’s an inconvenience to have to re-download content especially when WiFi or internet service is so slow. Even a backup on my MAC failed to correct this. Additional issue is when I am online, downloaded courses buffer. What’s the point of downloading if it’s not going to work the way it’s intended? =============================== Update, developer response came way too late and with a common sense reply to download lectures again along with the app. Apparently they can’t figure out why data is corrupted when the app updates. The latest issue experienced is where I went play a lesson and download was removed. I click on the next lecture/video and it occurs again. Fully downloaded lectures are removed as you click on them. What’s the point of spending your hard earned money if your content will not be available or accessible when you have the time to watch it?

    I haven’t been able to download my courses in months and watching these classes while traveling was one of the best parts of this app. I don’t know why they won’t roll back their updates because they broke it months ago and have been ‘working’ on it ever since.

    Hello! Anybody else having this issue? My Udemy app won’t find any of my TVs to cast to! This app is basically useless to me right now. I need my course casted to a tv so I can follow along on my laptop! Switching between windows on a laptop is not ideal! I have power cycled my whole network , I made sure all my devices are up to date on firmware I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, I tried downloading the app on another phone and it still doesn’t work. I have done a lot of troubleshooting on my end to try to get it to work but it doesn’t. Also my tv is a Sony with android built in so it has a built in chrome cast not a dongle. All other apps I have, have no issue casting to any of my TVs. Contacting you was my last option. I think they app possibly has a bug.

    Just installed and tried to sign in but regardless of whether I'm on wifi or phone data, it tells me "You need to be connected to the internet to continue.".

    You guys at Udemy are doing a great job. I just have one and only one piece of feedback that I would like to see. For the iPad app, make sure the video stretches to the edge of the screen in full screen mode. There are big borders around the video in full screen that considerably reduces the viewing area and makes the content of the video look smaller. It makes the text in the video, especially for coding tutorials look smaller. I am using an 11 inch iPad and it will great to see this update.

    Very frustrating experience. I buy a course, download it via the app, most videos freeze the app. Only recourse is to restart the app. Even then downloaded videos won’t play. No status on video downloads. Horrible app!

    Anytime I try to watch a course the app stops and starts, over and over. I’ve noticed the issue for about a month now and it’s miserable trying to get through a course that way. Other than that I love the app!
  • Downloading content is very painful

    This would be a 5 star app in my opinion, if they speed up and improved the downloading for offline use process... takes a very long time to download, app needs to be in foreground, and seems that you need to download courses, after any app updates, unfortunately found this out in flight, unfortunately.. Would be nice to be able click on download a course, and walk away, instead of having to sit there keeping focus on the udemy app, and making sure the iPad doesn’t go to sleep.

    Since the last few updates, the app stalls after each video in a course and does not automatically load the next video. I have to manually reload the app to be able to play the next video. This gets really annoying very quick. Please fix this ASAP. Thanks
  • Course content is good; ironically, app is bad

    The course content is great, but the app is horrible. Maybe the developers should take a Udemy course? Joking aside, a few major factors play into the app and my negative review. First off, casting it to a chromecast does not work at all, even though the button is there. I’ve reported this over a month ago and it still has not been fixed (I have a strong use case for the Chromecast, but I do not want to go into details about that). Furthermore, the support team was very rude and after I reported, they said they know about the issue and will mark the support ticket as “resolved”. I don’t understand the logic of marking it as resolved when it’s not resolved; the only thing that can come to mind is that the support team needs to hit a certain quota to receive a bonus or something (it was year end when I experienced the issue). This experience relates to the app because (1) the support section was hard to find and (2) as soon as the ticket was marked closed, there was no way of me to respond or dispute it as the text box became disabled. Another issue with the app is that if you purchase a course through the app, the 1 month”guarantee” does not apply. Only if you purchased through the website will Udemy honor that 1 month guarantee. There are also performance issues with video quality. The issues affect all videos if played through a browser or through the app. So I think Udemy has bigger issues to deal with. There are very exceptional courses on Udemy that I enjoy; specifically courses from Mosh and Angela Yu. It’s a shame, however that these talented instructors are backed by a company that does not have their shot together. I will not be surprised if Udemy does not up their game, that another company will take their instructor and put their courses on a better platform. They say the courses you buy are yours forever, but what if Udemy goes out of business?

    I really like this app it's very good if the courses I purchased actually worked. First of all I purchased a course through this app and I never received it even though it charged my card. Second the courses I've purchased through my computer won't load saying that I don't have internet connection. The only way to fix this is to delete and re-install the app. Sadly after I did this the problem persisted so I do not know what I'm going to do.
  • iOS app is pretty much a disaster

    While Udemy has some great content, this review is for the iOS app, which is unfortunately incredibly buggy. Screen often flips upside down, major problems downloading and playing back offline content. With each update, these major issues never seem to be addressed. Some updates make it even worse. After giving the app dozens of chances, I've concluded at this point the app is currently almost completely unusable. Please just bite the bullet, and hire someone competent to fix or rewrite the app from scratch!! With all the income from users, surely there are resources to fix this. Your users deserve it. (And they certainly do NOT deserve getting update after update promising to fix issues and left with an app that's as buggy as ever. Seriously, does anyone even test these things before they're sent out? I am doubtful.)

    Udemy is easily the best online learning platform but the app leaves a lot to be desired. It crashes constantly, freezes, gets memory warnings 10 times a day, duplicates lessons, loses my place and otherwise just frustrates me. The app has a good design, just a very poor execution.

    Udemy is an amazing platform with quality course content but the IOS app has a major flaw in that the ability to download courses for offline viewing is totally broken. It works for maybe one or two videos but if you try to download anything substantial the UI will tell you that it worked when it didn’t. Frustrating experience, I would prefer that Udemy would just be up front that this functionality is broken instead of wasting users time. I’ve spent hours trying to get at least a section of a class downloaded for a long flight to no avail. Total waste of time. Just remove the option from the UI until it’s fixed please and save your customers some frustration!

    I find I very often have to kill the app and relaunch it to load the next video in the course. Otherwise, the app just keeps spinning waiting for the video to load, which never seems to ever happen by itself. Even worse, the app will spin no matter what I do for already downloaded content. If this critical issue were solved, I’d def rate the app higher.
  • Annoying issues

    Several bugs that hamper this experience. My main issue is that courses do not download when the app is minimized. I have to keep the app open and the screen on for them to download, or else it stops downloading after the current class finishes. Background App Refresh is turned on on my device, this happens on both my iPad Pro (2017) and iPhone 6S. Lots of other bugs, including UI refresh glitches, episodes not playing when downloaded (appears to be a syncing issue), and audio de-syncing whenever screen focus is lost (pulling down the overlay).

    Earlier today I wasted 2 hours at work trying to download videos for offline viewing. I tried to download the entire course, download particular sections, even download individual lectures one by one. Nothing worked. Now when I came home and tried to play lecture videos, it says “no internet connection found..need to have internet connection or offline content”. Whereas the wifi is working perfectly fine. Can’t imagine how Udemy can’t fix such a useless app since so long.

    I bought a course and about half the time I get an error that it won’t load videos, and none of the Articles load, just the title with a blank page. The support page, where I tried to report this, is broken too: if you (somehow) fail the CAPTCHA the form breaks and there’s no way to resubmit! Final gripe: the account signup doesn’t use standard iOS widgets defeating Keychain, eg won’t pick up Safari’s password or allow suggesting strong passwords.

  • App is a Nightmare

    The Udemy content is great. I’ve undertaken multiple courses over a number of years. The App on the other hand is hopeless. On both iPad and iPhone I literally can’t watch the content due to the never ending ‘black screen with white scroll’ when trying to watch a video. This occurs both when I’ve downloaded content and when I’m trying to access via perfect WiFi. Renders the App unusable. Very disappointing this is still occurring as many reviews going back 12+ months have mentioned the same issue.

    I’m trying to watch the videos of mine course but it keeps saying that it could not load the lecture and it works fine when I try to watch another one. I reinstalled many times. Tried to clean the app data but anything worked. And the download process don’t work properly some times it doesn’t load.

    I’m having terrible experience watching video lessons on my iPad. It’s always loosing connection and very slow on loading (buffering). While on browser I have no problem watching video but no option to change playing speed. Please fix it.
