  • Wide screen not available?

    I’m super confused here. Why is a video-based platform does not make wide screen available? I have my rotating screen unlocked and all. Other apps can rotate fine but not Udemy. Video is super small on the vertical position.

    Content is great...when I can watch it. App is absolutely completely terrible. Not sure how many releases you’re going to have that don’t fix the issues. Video doesn’t scan forward or back, making full screen sometimes work, downloading often fails, and the worst part, I finally download a bunch of videos and the first thing that happens is I get ‘download removed’ when trying to play! Really great when you want to consume your purchased content on a plane. I might as well just start charging back the purchases at this point as I’ve lost faith Udemy knows what they are doing. Wonder if there is an iOS class you could buy?

    Have to wait 5s then it crashes and wait more than 5s(like 8s) if it doesn’t crash on iPad Air 2, thats only app loading time, not loading time of my course. Always updating for better experience but always end up the same. Wish i could give zero star
  • Terrible Streaming and download speed

    I purchased many courses and it went well on desktop but terrible on mobile. I have no problem of using other online course’s app with streaming & download, Netflix also runs smoothly. I have to say, content is great but expect you could check the mobile streaming/download video speed, many thanks!
  • Needs iPad keyboard controls

    I’m very much enjoying this app and the courses on Udemy, but I’m finding that the iOS app could be improved for playback efficiency especially when watching courses on technical subjects that require a fair amount of pausing and rewinding. It would be a great addition to the iOS experience on iPad if we could use the space bar to trigger play / pause and the arrow keys to jump back and forward in 5 second increments. This however is just icing on top of an amazing service with great content at incredibly low prices. Thanks for helping to make structured learning so accessible!

  • Always freezes and can’t load videos

    I’ve bought several courses and can never seem to play them in the app. The video is always black and spins. Sometimes I’ll see two of each lesson in the ui too which is really confusing. The app also becomes unresponsive when it’s failed to load lessons (which is a lot) and nothing I click does anything so I have to close it out. I’m on an iPhone X with 300mbps connection, it should work fine, but I can’t view any of the courses I’ve purchased on mobile. It’s super disappointing.

    I was in class, my iPad was turned off, and suddenly I hear a Udemy course blasting on full volume. I had to take out my iPad and turn it off manually. The app takes forever to load and is just not easy to use on mobile. Works great on desktop. Developers, I own a ton of courses on udemy, please give me a useable app to watch them on.

    Hey they just released an update and it improved a lot of stuff, tried to download a full course and only one video can’t be downloaded. I like the improvement but I am still shocked the iOS app is lagging behind the android app but steps are being made!
  • Can't use it anymore

    I used to love this app but suddenly it decided to not work on my iPad because it's an old model. My iPad works fine so i don't want to buy a new one. I can't use the app and courses I paid for! I won't fly a rocket to the moon with this app, it's just text and videos for god's sake! If youtube works in an iPad, so should this app.
  • Good content you can’t access

    The course player is awful. Video streams don’t load. I have to kill the app and try again, then it will load. Downloading used to work. Now it just says download canceled. Constantly saying waiting for lecture on chrome cast. Videos will not automatically go to the next one, even if the next section is a video.

    Every time I try opening the app, it closes by itself automatically 2-3 seconds later. I shut off my phone, I tried logging out, I tried deleting the app, and re-downloading, nothing. The website is working fine, it’s just a bummer. Oh okay it works now :)))) Ohh wait... it doesn’t :( How is Apple allowing this app to continue? Aren’t they supposed to be looking out for us the consumers? Please Apple take a good long look at this and review the app!!!! Force Udemy to launch a stable version! This is ridiculous, I literally can make a better app than this in 7 days smh

    I am avid Udemy customer I’ve bought over 25 courses on the web and never had a complaint! I tried to increase my learning experience by switching to the Mobile app for when I’m out and about! But ironically the site that thought me how to create Mobile application on multiple languages can’t seem to get it right on their own personal app! Overall the app is very slow and annoying! If you pause the video and your phone locks, as soon as you unlock it the audio continues to pay but the screen remains black, forcing you restart the app completely! It doesn’t let you download any course as it said you can! unless you’re connect thru WiFi the video don’t really play! Bottom line Stick to the site online

  • Great potential, poor experience

    I really like the content but the app is buggy and lacks basic features. When I am watching a lecture while browsing the app, the video disappears while the audio still plays. The only way to get to it again is to navigate to the course videos which is frustrating. Also, if I am navigating while watching a video and click on the same video I am watching through the course video list, it reloads the video instead of recognizing that that is the video I am watching. The app should just recognize that is the video I am watching and just maximize it instead of reloading it. This would not be an issue if the video doesn’t disappear while I’m navigating. I am shocked this app has high ratings with all the bugs it has. I am trying to find excuses to give this app a higher rating, but for now 3 stars will have to do.
  • Great content terribly slow app.

    I love the courses but the app is terribly slow when try to do anything. It takes 15 seconds after opening the app just to be able to do anything. Then it wants to load my last played video so that takes another 15 seconds before I can cancel it. Then another 15 seconds to get to the course I want. Then yet another wait to start playing the video. Once playing a video it runs fine but that’s the only time it does. I usually end up going back to the website and watching there instead because everything runs smoothly on it.

    Everything about this app so far has been fantastic. I love how seamless it functions between your pc and smartphone. However, it has the worst video player by far. It’s so buggy that it takes forever for the video to play, and sometimes you’ll just get sound. But that won’t stop it from just randomly playing the audio from your lock screen... definitely needs to be refined
  • Download video feature is terrible

    First, Udemy does not support Background App Refresh for video downloading. I have to turn off my iPhone auto-lock and keep Udemy alive on screen for it to download video content for offline viewing. Courses take hours to download. Second, app upgrades wipes out my downloaded videos. This is the only media app I have that does either of these. Completely unacceptable. You can do much better!

    This app drains my battery, is slow to load, and crashes constantly. I am a huge Udemy fan, but the iOS app in its current state for the iPhone and iPad is a disaster.
  • Incredibly Buggy App

    The iPad version of this app is incredibly buggy, and I wouldn’t even try to use this app on an iPhone because the UX is even worse. From launch, the app is slow and stutters - nothing really feels fluid. While playing video, the video takes extraordinarily long to load (on 150mb/s down) or won’t load at all! When I’m able to get through a video, the next video won’t load up at all and I’m forced to restart the app to regain functionality. Not good Udemy.

    - Login screen possibly broken, screen just sits there unresponsive. - Can't download courses - Auto video quality setting chews through data, can err on the right quality for the display size instead of using max available bandwidth. - Removing the partially downloaded offline content broke the app, couldn't see anything in the app. On the good side, - Autoplay is good. - Landscape mode fullscreen is great. - Layout and usability is friction free. - Video player features like playback speed etc are great. Unfortunately, it makes little sense to buy any more udemy courses.

    New update bug: 1. black loading screen after finishing the a video and to to remove black screen and continue to next video, I have to restart the app. 2. Every-time I use seek bar or go forward/backward, video gets stuck. It’s a reoccurring problem please fix this. Thank you
  • Garbage app betrays great content

    The app used to do an adequate job of delivering content, but now the videos streams are so slow as to render the app unusable. The “must be” quality of streaming course content doesn’t exist, even on a 100 megabit connection, 4g, etc. I jokingly think Udemy is using a legacy AOL dial up connection to stream their course videos. From reading other reviews, it is clear that the Udemy team has known about this problem for a while, yes they do nothing to address it (or at least nothing that solves the problem). From a technical standpoint, scaling streaming of video content has been locked down for years. I hope this isn’t a financial problem (in terms of being throttled by cdn providers) because Udemy content can be outstanding. My user experience is so bad, that this is literally the first app review I’ve felt compelled to write. Sad.
  • Offline viewing needs work

    The offline viewing doesn’t download lectures efficiently. When queueing the videos to download and selecting multiple courses to download, it tries to download everything in parallel and clogs up the internet stream slowing download speed to a stop which would be faster if videos downloaded one by one. Also it says courses are finished downloading in downloaded courses but its really not completely downloaded. It doesn’t even show a percentage of how much of the course is downloaded. I think offline downloading if made efficiently could help udemy’s website from having too many requests at once from people rewatching already streamed videos. It would be helpful if a stream could be downloaded while watching to save time. Other than offline problems the lectures, tests, and videos work really well on the app. I just hope there is an update to fix the download course option.

  • The lag is unreal

    Seriously tho Edit: Giving a one because I see no upside to using the app versus the mobile web version. The mobile web version doesn’t lag, isn’t buggy, looks beautiful, and you can split screen for multitasking. You can’t even split screen with Udemy to write notes. That seems like a pretty basic design flaw for an app that’s about education. Anyways, keeping it a 1 unless I see a reason to use the app over the web, cause otherwise, who cares about the app? If it’s not useful or isn’t efficient for its purpose. Do you have a separate server the app is reading from? Cause dang it lagged like every minute. How am I supposed to study for like 8 hours like that.

    I purchased a course and it never showed up. Trying to get customer support is extremely slow. I did not see a phone number, only an email which takes days for a response only asking for more info- not a resolution. After 4 days, I requested a refund only to hear Udemy cannot refund, and I need to contact Apple support. I would not recommend this App.
  • Awesome Concept, Absolutely Horrible App

    Incredibly frustrating. The concept is great, the classes are great. But if you’re trying to do it on the app it will make you want to pull your hair out. Often times the audio is out of sync with the video, when the video is supposed to move to the next automatically it just freezes, want to download content to watch offline? Probably won’t work. Every time they release an update I get excited thinking they’ll fix the bugs, but I swear it just gets worse.

    I have to close down the app and open it again for the course videos to begin to play. I hope this gets resolved soon. It’s becoming frustrating. Videos fail to load. Get duplicate videos. Also buffering. I’m in a 1gb connection. I sent a screenshot to you already. Ticket 3215371

    I’ve used this app for a lot of courses and normally don’t run into issues, but I’m a right schedule and I wanted to purchase a course whilst I’m on vacation and when I bought it, it glitches and says processing and I refresh and log out of the app and it stays like that. They have no customer service number to call, no online chat, Instagram admin doesn’t open messages you’re pretty much out of luck. This experience, will likely drive me to other platforms for courses, this is a major issue for me. They didn’t hesitate to. Charge my card and give me nothing. But just be careful when you make a purchase on this app.
  • Videos are not streaming well in iOS

    I'm trying to access udemy courses whenever i get free time, while traveling, while in public places. However the app is incredibly slow despite of WiFi connection is decent enough. It freezes the video and audio moves along. A big issue with the sync. Not only the videos, the app itself is very very slow. I can't even see my current courses progress. there is a small tab shows your recent course. when click on it it takes ages to load anything. There are lot of streaming issues while casting to my TV from the app. So basically, i can only use udemy on my laptop on a browser. I really LOVE udemy... but this is a very big problem for me.

    I have had the same error pop up for months. I keep sending emails and keep getting the same generic response. Delete the app and start again. Ridiculous! Poor service. —- I have used Udemy now for 5+ years and hundreds of courses Their app is very poor! App has to be kept open and active for download! Can’t do anything else! App downloads 1 file at a time. With a course that has 100+ sections, youbhabe to babysit the app constantly. If phone locks up, you are SOL no downloading. Downloads are slow! The download sleep, does not matter video quality, it’s is slow. Dial up?! Seriously, CDN would be good! App is buggy! I keep getting the same errors over and over! Have reported them but still same issue. App is not very configurable.

    I bought a number of courses and was burned badly! For one course in particular, one video section was called “where to get all the free stuff” that students are promised before they buy the course. Unbelievably, the student is told in the video they will get $10 off a $60 service needed for the course. That is hardly free. That was lie #1. Udemy writes prolifically how all their courses have 30 day money back guarantees. When I attempted to get a refund, there was a lot of small print (not available before buying). One was that if I bought the course though the App Store, I was not eligible for a refund.PERIOD. THIS IS BLATANT FRAUD. I WILL BE REPORTING IT TO APPLE.

  • Designed to sell you courses, not to make it easy to use the ones you already paid for

    Aggressively reminds you to enable push notifications and defaults to a page that drives you to new courses instead of making it easy to watch your purchased items. Videos continue to play when you lock the screen or if the focus moves to another app, so you can miss course content if you’re not careful. Between the two, I much prefer the user experience of Skillshare. Udemy appears to be all about the money instead of taking good care of teachers and students. Hopefully they can learn something for themselves and improve the app soon.
  • Great content, bad app

    As many others have noted, the app suffers from poor streaming causing video content to completely stop, even on a strong wifi connection. I frequently have to force close and reopen the app just to get a video to resume. Heaven forbid you attempt to rewind 15 seconds! Also, I’ve already had to uninstall and reinstall the app to resolve an issue in which actual content was missing from the app but visible in the browser. The time wasted trying to get videos to begin or resume makes this a huge barrier to completing coursework let alone come back for more. There is plenty of good content here - please improve your app!

    Update: after runaround they got my course loaded 4 days after I ordered it. I ordered a course and they took my money through apple store, but my course never showed up in my app. I wrote to their support and got a robot response, followed by a response that my concern was been been tagged as “resolved” even though it is clearly not resolved. Trying to find online help is a maze of unhelpful faq links and then I found that they do not offer refunds to iPhone app users. Very scammy setup like other inhuman online monstrosities.

    The user interface for the XS Max is still cutting off the bottom portion of courses. I'm learning tech-heavy where I need access to all portions of the screen and the cutoff is growing unbearable to the entire experience. Please fix!

    UPDATE: STILL waiting for Customer Service to help me with this (below). They "closed" the case. How about some performance improvements witn that? Do not give these people your money. ************** I cannot tell what this app is doing these days because I have now spent over a week trying to merge 2 email accounts. . CSRs do not read emails or prior logs. . And want receipts for multiple purchases made years ago, so they can datamine you, no doubt. . No security question or other system to remedy situations like this, which are probably common. . FIX this. Company not recommended. Poor IT.
