  • Worked great until three weeks ago

I’ve been using this app for a year. It significantly reduced my inbound garbage calls (at one point I got about 10-12 calls a day). All was fine and dandy until about 3 weeks ago. Now it’s like the app is t even installed. I checked all the settings, but scammers and recordings are getting through the gatekeeper again. Sad, too, since I pay for the premium plan. Set to renew this month, but now I’m not sure I want to keep it.

There is no longer an option after updating iOS to v12.3.2 to block calls using Hiya in Settings -> Phone -> call blocking, so this app is totally useless now. It rarely worked before anyway. Deleting this poc app and I wasted money buying a subscription.

Using the free version with very limited value. My phone rings anyway and spam still gets through. I’m going to dump Hiya and use my Verizon free spam blocker. The Verizon version actually works and thus blocks the call and with no intruding ringing Sorry Hiya - you’ll have to up your game

Not only do I receive as many nuisance calls as I did before I installed this app but it has failed to block calls that I have specifically set to block.
  • Not good

My husband and I just had a problem from a scam artist that I trusted because Hiya said that it was not a scam. So the only reason I’m staying with Hiya is to see where phone calls come from.

I get calls more than I used to since installing this app. It does nothing for you worst app I’ve ever purchased. Don’t waist your money

I went from about 6 plus call to over 20 plus I believe the robocallers have access to not blocking
  • Not ripe for iPhone

It’s not Hiya’s fault, as the app works great on my friend’s Droid. But much of the app’s functionality can’t work (yet?) on iPhone. Won’t block bad incoming numbers, etc. so I’m not sure what the point is yet. I’ve got the Premium for a year. Cheap enough. Maybe they’ll work something out with Apple.

This app, much like all the others does not appear to have any affect on the constant calls and texts from spammers. Don’t waste your time.

I only talk to real people I want to talk to! Fantastic app. Have added scam numbers myself to help the fight!
  • Blocked numbers decreases

After my app updates, the amount of numbers I am ‘protected’ from goes down. It used to be over 200k, now only 198k. It might help a little, but I am still getting quite a few robocalls that aren’t categorized, and even scam numbers still ring-I thought known scams were supposed to be blocked.
  • Pretty useless

I’ve had this app for about 6 months now. It has alerted me to or blocked, perhaps 4 calls in that time. Meanwhile, I get 4-5 scam calls per day. So, what’s the point of this app?? There doesn’t seem to be one.

It’s usually a good app; however, I’ve gotten calls from France, Russia, Azberajian and Belarus in the last two weeks alone and Hiya gave no notice that they were spam calls.
  • Useless

This app is utterly useless. It lets every scammer through even though I’ve told it to block them, I’ve enabled it in settings, and the app is running in the background. I’m getting bombarded with IRS scam calls and this app does nothing.
  • I think it was working better a few months ago

When I first installed Hiya (on the recommendation of the guys at Reply All), it was great. The number of junk calls was greatly reduced. Lately, they’ve started to tick up again. I’ve also noticed that I’m now protected from fewer spam numbers than before. What’s up with that?
  • Used to be great, now it’s all about the money

This used to be a fantastic app for identifying and reporting unsolicited calls, which was a great community service. Now it’s just all about the money. Deleting and tell all my family and friends that I referred to this app to do the same. If I’m going to have to pay, it’ll be for a better service.

This app works great for looking up unknown callers but it doesn’t block the number. It might show that it’s blocked but I am still getting 3 - 4 calls from the same telemarketing number a day. If I answer, they don’t talk, if I call back it’s a recording and hangs up and there is no option for a do not call list so I really need an app that will actually block the number!

It’s a good app but be careful when you upgrade to the premium you’re supposed to get names of people who call you, well that’s not really true if you’re lucky you’ll get a name once in a while, otherwise it’s just a number and you’re paying $14.95 a month, for what?

I am still getting 800 numbers calls, less frequently but nonetheless I keep getting the social security fraud calls. It shows only 2 recent searches from when I downloaded the app. Not sure if it’s working.

Okay so if you could only help to eliminate all the spam texts I’ve been getting as of late... I understand that developers need to get paid for their time and efforts to keep applications going and I’m good with that so long as the app works as advertised... if not then why pay for it?
  • Not sure

It was great then it didn’t share any of the findings, so I upgraded and it was great again, but now bad calls are getting through to me and rarely to identify the callers when I look up a number which is what happened before I the upgrade And somehow I got linked to another app does same thing but it charges to my Apple / iTunes and I can’t erase it

I’ve just downloaded this app. I’ve given it 3 stars to start with as I would like to view this app in action. I will provide updates as needed. I’ve already blocked at least 4 numbers & reported these same numbers as spam. I’m looking forward to learning more about this app & how it will assist me in stopping these awful harassing “spam/fraudulent calls; if not at least slow the number of calls I receive daily. In the past I’ve received as many as 15 calls in one day. I receive just as many texts messages (some of which call me by a name that isn’t now or will ever be my name)...I’ve repeatedly asked to be removed from “ALL CONTACT LIST” and I block them immediately. The scammers get around this by sending texts out to 20 people or so with 19 numbers I’ve already blocked and and the 20th number is buried far below will be the one number that hasn’t been blocked... I can’t tell you how frustrating this is. And please, don’t get me started on the “Fake IRS” callers.... So, I’m crossing my fingers that this app will live up to its name & provide much needed service... Ahhh....It’s the little things in life. 🤗 One day...Oh!! One day may they all go away. Update: SO FAR SO GOOD!!! Thank you Hiya for providing this service. This app has already stopped a lot of unwanted calls... 5 Stars for sure!!!
  • Hold on ver 5.23.3 (updated after following directions)

I have to update my comments. The “Protect” tab appears to have three options and none seem to work. This fooled me for a while. Finally, I realized the screen was directions to go to Apple’s Settings for “Phone/Call Blocking & Identification” and invoke the Hiya settings there. Once you do this, you can then see the full settings on the “Protect” tab. The app has worked flawlessly since I set up Hiya per their instruction. Past: App no longer functions even with update 5.33.3. I’m using an iPhone Xs with IOS 12.3.3. Options offers no selections that work. After you get a call from the low-life telemarketers, Hiya will now tell you it was a telemarketer but it no longer blocks the call in the first place. Gone are the blocking options that were useful such as the first 6 digits matching your phone number (a popular ploy of telemarketers) except those in your contact list. The current options list contains three “selections” that are cryptic and importantly not selectable. Weird and not functional.

I tried the 7 day trial and wasn’t impressed. Removed app on day 6 and they still charge me the annual fee. Ask for a refund on day 7, answer NO. Give me a break!
  • Limited number of blocked area codes

    1
    By Deborah D. Lattimore
For an app that charges a yearly fee, I would expect no limit placed on the number of area codes and first three digits to be blocked. If this app could provide that feature, it would be excellent. Otherwise, it’s a waste of money for me.

Don’t waste your money on the paid version. It doesn’t get any better. It’s time to have ‘merica’s overpaid telecom execs to put their margaritas down and put stop the BS unwanted calls. They can do it. They just make too much money off the scam callers to do anything about it.
  • Meh...

It’s free so you get what you pay for I guess. I’m not terribly impressed as it doesn’t really seem to do the things it claims it should. I’m still getting pounded with robo and spam calls. I’ve played with my settings, I’ve played with the app settings and I have all features of the app turned on, but still getting 4 and 5 a day. ultimately, it’s still free so apparently you can’t expect much. I think I’ll try a higher quality paid app.

  • Spoof call block not customizable. Biggest pitfall of this app.

    1
    By AzizBe
Useless app against spoofed calls. I get about 5 calls per day and cannot block them because Hiya forces to enter first 6 digits of phone number to block which is area code plus 3 digits. The problem is that spoofed calls come from my area code but with random numbers so I need to block my entire area code. why I can’t block something like +1(505)XXXXXXX while whitelisting contacts? Why there is no flexibility in where I can put X?
